A foreign man's motorbike was confiscated by police in Beijing after he drove it without license plate and injured a middle-aged woman, police said.

Beijing Public Security Bureau said on its micro blog on Tuesday that the accident occurred at 10:40 am on Monday at the Zuojiazhuang intersection in Chaoyang district.

Video footage released by police showed that the motorbike hit a woman near a sidewalk.

The woman suffered minor injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital.

Beijing News reported that the man gave the woman 1,800 yuan ($295) in compensation. The man did not have a driver's license for the motorbike, and police said they will punish the man for his violation of traffic rules.

Another video released online on Tuesday by witnesses showed the woman held the motorbike and refused to let the man go while the man shouted at her in Chinese.

Mirror Evening News reported that the man has lived in Beijing for six years and is from the UK.

The accident became a hot topic online after earlier posts claimed the woman intentionally threw herself in front of the motorbike to get compensation.
