Florence Biennale is known for its international appeal, luring numerous talented artists to exhibit their work. Inaugurated yesterday, the 9th edition of the Biennale has many Chinese elements to offer.

For the first time, the 9th edition of the Florence Biennale has invited Chinese curators to set up a China unit, allowing 16 artists to exhibit their work. All 48 pieces have been selected in accordance with this year's theme, "Ethics: DNA of Art".

Wu Hongbin, Art Curator, said, "Our cultural symbols contain a very strong sense of humanity, which can be understood by everyone. Many foreign artists and visitors have spoken highly of the work by our artists. They understand what's behind the art, and they also feel the universally shared humanity the pieces present."

As one of three biggest art exhibitions in Italy, the Florence Biennale provides a self-financed independent platform for Artists from all over the world. And as cultural exchanges between China and Italy grow, Chinese artists have more opportunities to bring their work here, providing inspiration for their western counterparts.

Rolando Bellini, Art Director, said, "I believe Chinese art contributes to the diversity, to the differences, with their own way of interpreting the world of art and the art itself. Because of that, there can be a fertile dialogue. The differences also give birth to a creative point of view."

The Florence Biennale runs till December the 9th. Besides providing an exhibition space in this historic renaissance city, the Biennale will also confer life time achievement awards to outstanding artists.
