The United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women has been observed on November the 25th every year since 2000.

According to the UN, up to 70 percent of women worldwide experience violence in their lifetime. Between 500,000 to 2 million people are trafficked annually into situations including prostitution, forced labour, slavery or servitude, according to estimates.

The UNITE Campaign has called for 16 orange Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, starting from November the 25th, through to December the 10th on Human Rights Day.

The Orange Day invites people to wear something orange to highlight its calls for the eradication of violence against women without reservation, equivocation or delay.
