China, Vietnam agree to advance joint maritime development

China and Vietnam have agreed on the mechanism and framework of a working group for consultation on joint maritime development at a meeting held in Hanoi Thursday.

Yi Xianliang, deputy director-general of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs under Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tran Duy Hai, deputy head of the National Border Committee under Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended Thursday's working session.

The meeting is to implement the consensus on China-Vietnam joint development at sea reached during Chinese Premier Li Keqiang 's visit to Vietnam in October 2013, and prepare for the upcoming plenary meeting of Chinese and Vietnamese government delegations on border negotiation.

After Thursday's meeting, the two sides reached consensus on the issue of the mechanism and framework of the working group for consultation on joint maritime development, and other related issues.
