The Wuhan Branch of the Red Cross Society of China said it is considering processing organ donation online registration so people don't have to travel to the organization to fill out paperwork, Chutian Jinbao, a newspaper in Wuhan, Hubei province reported on Thursday.

The organization's comments came after a 22-year-old man with leukemia complained that the branch cold-shouldered his wish to donate organs as he was confined in bed and couldn't go to the branch to fill out the application.

Zhang Qi from Zaoyang, Hubei province said he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012, and the disease relapsed even though he underwent a bone marrow transplant in November 2012.

He called the branch and said he wanted to make a deceased organ donation, but the receptionist said the center refused to send someone to give him the application form. He later had to have his sister get the form.

The organization explained that it cannot set aside staff to visit people to help them finish donation applications.

In March 2010, Hubei joined a national campaign in which Red Cross branches advocated organ donation and accepted applications from the public in the hope that China will have enough organ donations to support transplant surgeries and no longer depend on donations from death roll inmates.
