Expat scammed for $3m in telephone scam

Police said Tuesday that an expatriate got swindled out of 20 million yuan ($3.28 million) over one week in a telephone scam.

The victim, who was not identified, reported the case to police on October 28. He had no idea that telecom fraud existed in China.

Police did not release any other details. The case was still under investigation Tuesday.
