China's Family Farms initiative encourages families to go commercial-scale to improve productivity. And, at the 20th China Agricultural High-Tech Fair held in Yangling Prefecture in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, modern agriculture and family farms are two of the hottest issues.

Experts from home and abroad exchanged their ideas on family farms and modern agriculture.

"Modern agriculture is a mixture of advanced technology, modern equipment and marketing skill. A family farm is an important platform to practice these advanced technologies and management, " said Wu Kongming, deputy director of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Researchers have made a lot of progress in improving the agricultural technology and equipment, but it costs a large amount of money to apply these modern facilities for these family farms. Experts say the food security problem cannot be fixed in a short time, but developing modern agriculture on family farms is certainly on the right track.
