Haute couture is on the rise in China, as more and more people want to wear something special and unique.

Designer Zhang Jingjing says that bespoke, haute couture design all starts with communication:

"We listen to client's requests and ideas. We summarize and give the client a rough draft. If the drawing meets the client's requests, we'll move on to finish the details. Once the blue print is done, the production process begins. First of all, we make a blank dress to see whether it fits the client's size. Then, we'll get to work."

Prices vary according to Zhang'a clients' demands, but bespoke pieces usually start from around 50,000 yuan.

A dress took Zhang over four months to make. "The patterns are all handmade, each pearl and each sequin. There are hundreds of thousands of them," Zhang said.

Haute couture is not just for the super-rich. A more affordable 5 to 6,000 yuan will get you a tailored suit like no one else's.
