Major doctors' associations in China, including the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, have issued a joint statement condemning violence against doctors. The statement comes shortly after an attack in Wenling city, in East China's Zhejiang province, in which a doctor was killed.

Denouncing the bloody attack, the statement calls on everyone to jointly work to ensure the safety of medical workers. The associations also say more reforms in the medical system are needed, in order to improve relations between doctors and patients.

They call on public security and judicial departments to strengthen law enforcement by setting up emergency response system. They warn that if such crimes continue, people may one day find themselves without any doctors to turn to.
