A 48-year-old man sustained serious injuries when he fell down a 20-meter-high cliff at Jiangjuntun Mountain in Mentougou district on October 27. He was rescued by a volunteer rescue squad and Mentougou firefighters, the Beijing News reported.
According to the rescue team, the man had traveled to the area with the intention of exploring the ancient caves of the Liao Dynasty (916-1125) with another traveler. Although the two were carrying professional climbing equipment, the injury caused by the man's fall made it impossible to move him.
The rescue team and the firefighters spent three hours transporting the injured man down to the foot of the mountain, and then took him to the hospital, where his injuries were deemed to be not life-threatening.
