The father of a 17-year-old boy surnamed Sun, who drowned during a sightseeing trip organized by his school, is suing the school and the scenic spot for more than 910,000 yuan ($149,331), the Beijing News reported.

In court, both the school and the scenic spot refused to accept liability. A school official said the students had previously received safety education, and that the teachers had no rescue equipment; the school agreed only to refund the boy's tuition fee.

The scenic spot's representative said a posted sign warned tourists of danger, and that the deep pool where the boy drowned was not on the approved sightseeing route.

The court has not yet made a ruling.
