Haidian district court released a report showing that the average education level of convicted rapists is high, the Beijing News reported.

Based on analysis of the 58 defendants (excluding juveniles) involved in rape cases this year, Haidian court determined that 28 defendants have college degrees. In addition, 44 of the convicted rapists are white-collar professionals, including managers, legal workers and workers at state-run institutions. These rape cases represent a shift from "stranger rape" cases, which tend to involve outdoor attacks in secluded areas. Many of these cases are based on attacks that took place in living rooms, between people sharing apartments to save on rent.
