Urban legend holds that the two deserted houses located at No.81 Chaoyangmennei Dajie are haunted by ghosts. An official from the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, which owns the property, confirmed the rumor that the residences will soon be repaired, the Beijing News reported.

According to Meng Qi, director of the Infrastructure Office of Beijing Parish, the two houses were built in 1910 by the American Catholic Association, and were deserted due to high maintenance fees. Since 2005, many thrillseekers have explored the houses and reported frightening experiences. Meng said that although the buildings are open to the public, they have been classified as highly dilapidated and the public is advised not to enter.
