Police have detained a bus driver in Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, after he and several friends beat up a 75-year-old man and two other tourists from Shanghai, local media reported Monday.

The fight started after the driver, surnamed Wang, refused to drop off his 13 passengers closer to a scenic spot they were visiting Saturday, according to a report by the Xinhua News Agency. The 13 passengers were visiting the site in a tour group.

Wang had stopped the bus 1 kilometer away from the group's destination and asked the passengers to get out, ignoring their demands to drive them closer. Some of the passengers began arguing with Wang, who ended up verbally abusing the 75-year-old man, the report said. During the argument, Wang called seven people to the scene who assaulted the tourists.

The 75-year-old suffered minor injuries. Two other tourists, who were in their 40s, were also hurt. One suffered a stab wound that was 3 centimeters deep, according to the report.

The tourists called the police, who took Wang into custody.

The case was still under investigation Monday.
