Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence on Wednesday to his Pakistani counterpart, Mamnoon Hussain, following the powerful earthquake that killed at least 208 people when it hit southwestern Pakistan Tuesday.

Xi said China and Pakistan are close and friendly neighbors and always stand together to support each other, adding that China is willing to offer all necessary assistance.

In his message, Xi said he felt "grieved as much as the brotherly Pakistani people" for the heavy casualties and property loss caused by the quake.

On behalf of the Chinese government and people as well as himself, Xi said, he lamented the death of the victims and extended sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the injured.

"I am convinced that under the leadership of Mr. President and the Pakistani government, the Pakistani people can unite to overcome difficulties, get over the disaster and rebuild their homes," Xi said.
