Milan Fashion Week ends with Asian style

In fashion news now, Monday was the closing day of the Milan 2014 Women's Fashion week. Chinese designer Uma Wang presented her new Spring-Summer collection, inspired by water and nature.

Made mainly of raw yarn and dyed with a special process into deep blue, grey and black, the new looks from Uma Wang are full of oriental exoticism. The collection has its origins in the styles of ancient China, while the colors and wet hair of the models call up the Spanish coast.

Uma Wang, Designer, said, "I began to collect ideas during a trip to Spain 3 months ago. I wanted to express the enlightenment of nature and of time. I made fabrics featuring sea water and rocks. And I was quite satisfied with the process when I finished the garments."

Wang launched her eponymous label in 2005 in London, and her shows in Shanghai, Paris, London and Milan have received critical acclaim. She is the second Chinese designer listed on the official runway show calendar for Milan Fashion Week, where it has become a kind of tradition for a Chinese designer to wrap things up.

Mario Boselli, President, Nat'l Chamber of Italian Fashion, said, "I had already seen her runway show before in Milan, not on the official calendar. So I am familiar with her excellent work. We also had Ji Wenbo on the last day of Milan Men's fashion Week, and it was a great success. It was so fantastic. I believe that ending our fashion week, either the men's or the women's, with a Chinese designer is a positive sign."

As the stage broadens for talented designers like Uma Wang, no doubt China's mark on the world of international fashion will continue to grow.
