The second national charity fair ended on Monday in south China's booming city of Shenzhen, with the agreed deals worth 1.7 billion yuan (about 276 million US dollars).

The China Charity Fair attracted 828 organizations, an increase of 52.2 percent from the fair last year, organizers said.

A total of 629 nongovernmental organizations attended the three-day event. The number of grassroots NGOs grew 142 percent at this fair.

Some 342 projects in disaster relief, education for adults and children's community development found donators at the fair. However, some 675 projects with funding expectations of 1.34 billion yuan failed to get anything.8 The transparency of charity organizations should be enhanced with the mobilization of more charity resources from all walks of life, said an official of the Shenzhen Civil Affairs Bureau.

Dou Yupei, vice minister of civil affairs, said Chinese charity organizations should learn from their international counterparts and cooperation and exchange should be strengthened.

About 81.7 billion yuan in donations from home and abroad were made in China last year, according to the China Charity and Donation Information Center.
