Three die in manhole mishap

Three people died Monday evening after working in a manhole in Baoshan district, local media in Shanghai reported.

It is unclear what happened to the three, but all of them fell unconscious while in the manhole, the local news website xinmin.cn reported. They were rushed to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The three were working in a manhole at the intersection of Gonghexin Road and Huma Road.

Work safety officials have opened an investigation into the case.
