Buses speak local dialect

The city's transportation authority will add announcements in the Shanghai dialect to all city buses starting next month, local media reported Thursday.

Seven bus lines have begun broadcasting announcements in the dialect, in addition to their announcements in Putonghua and English. The measure aims to better preserve the local dialect and culture.

Subway operators don't currently have plans to follow suit.
