798 Art Festival 2013 puts young, local talent first

The annual grand event of art, 798 Art Festival, will kick off during September 21 to October 20 this year in 798 Art Zone in Beijing.

But some events have already started to build up the atmosphere, such as a creative artwork bazaar and performances in 798's square.

As one of the leading art events held in the iconic art zone, the 798 Art Festival has become a key platform for international artistic and cultural exchange.

Promoting young, local artists

This year, promoting outstanding exhibitions of art institutions within the zone is a key focal point. Members of the organizing committee will review exhibitions from art institutions to join exhibition, and try to find the exhibition that best matches the theme of this year.s art festival.

Another highlight for the forthcoming festival is the special exhibition that showcases young artists. A contest that focuses on creativity among new names in art was introduced for the first time this year. Contestants are required to create art within the theme of 798 Art Zone.s past, present and future. The contest aims to identify and encourage the best in creativity and design.

Additionally, a promotional exhibition for young artists will also be held September 28 to October 6. This is the second year of this exhibition to promote outstanding young artists and present their innovative ideas. Works from nearly 20 young artists will be featured, including oil paintings, contemporary ink and wash paintings and sculptures.

A chance to connect

Photography, drama, graffiti and academic seminars will all be included in the festival. A photography exhibition that illustrates the history of 798 over 10 years will be in 798 art factory.

The opening day of the festival with include a marathon of arts activities during the White Night event, including street dancing, live bands, stage performances and movies to light up the night.

During the festival period, some artists. studios will be open to the public. Attendees are given the chance to witness the creative process and connect with artists directly.
