Tragic drowning in sinkhole

Two boys drowned in a water-filled sinkhole in Fangshan district on September 2, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Both boys were Beijing residents; one of them was 12 years old. Their bodies were recovered by firefighters and members of the local Blue Sky rescue team, who rushed to the scene based on a call by the parents of other children playing at the hole.

The sinkhole is 100 meters in diameter. Around the perimeter, it is around one meter deep, but further towards the center, the depression reaches a depth of five meters.
