Shanghai police have arrested 2,094 people in 905 cases of prostitution and obscene performance through July this year, local media reported Wednesday.

In one typical case, police arrested 12 members of a gang on August 1 that forced women into prostitution.

In June, police discovered girls under 18 years old were working for an erotic service in Pudong New Area. Further investigation revealed that a gang was targeting young women near Shanghai Railway Station by promising job opportunities.

The women would be taken to hotels where they would be forced to have sex with gang members. They were then forced into prostitution under guard.
