Senior leader Liu Yunshan on Wednesday urged officials to welcome criticism and ensure implementation of the Party's "mass line" campaign.

The campaign is in its second phase of "uncovering problems and conducting criticism," Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said at a conference.

The campaign was launched in June by China's top leadership to boost ties between CPC members and the people while cleaning up undesirable work styles such as formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

The campaign has generally been well implemented, but problems still exist in some places or departments due to a lack of attention and ineffective measures, according to the meeting.

Heads of local CPC committees bear the major responsibilities to implement the campaign and will be held responsible for any failure, said Liu.

They should act as an example to their subordinates and other CPC members and take the lead to criticize and self-criticize, find problems and work them out, Liu said.

He urged officials to remain open to opinions and criticism, and be open to discussions with people.

They will improve themselves by listening to the true voice of the masses and engaging in some soul-searching, said Liu.
