Food poisoning sickens 37 in SW China

Thirty-seven people were sickened in a suspected food poisoning in southwest China's Sichuan province Tuesday, local authorities said Wednesday.

A total of 192 people attended a banquet Tuesday noon at a restaurant in Shangbamiao township in the city of Bazhong, the city's food security commission said in a statement.

By Wednesday noon, thirty-seven people had sought medical treatment and of them, 27 were given clinic treatment and 10 were hospitalized for further treatment, it said.

None of the patients were in critical condition, it added.

An investigation into the cause of suspected poisoning was under way.
