Two senior legislators in south China's Guangdong province were removed from their posts on Wednesday following probes into their alleged discipline violations, the legislature said.

Li Zhujiang and Chen Huayi have been terminated in their positions as deputy secretary-general of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, said a statement from the committee.

Li was also removed as head of Guangdong's administration of ocean and fishery earlier this month after the provincial discipline watchdog suspected him of accepting massive bribes.

The discipline authority said Li and Chen are under investigation for suspected discipline violations.

Li and Chen are among a group of senior officials and legislators in the wealthy coastal province that are under scrutiny for alleged misdeeds. Others include Li Xinghua, head of Guangdong's department of science and technology, and two deputy mayors of Jieyang City.
