The worst floods in 50 years have also hit other parts of China. In southwest Yunnan Province, four people have died in rain-triggered floods, with heavy rains affecting close to 30,000 people and toppling over 5,000 houses. Classes were suspended in rural schools.

Storms also battered the north of the country. In northeast Shanxi province, at least 12 workers were killed when a violent rainstorm caused the collapse of an unfinished coal mine workshop.

The capital Beijing was not spared the bad weather, suffering heavy rain and high winds.
