Railway police in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, said they have helped send a dozen runaway children back to their parents in the past month after summer began, Jiangxi Daily reported on Monday.

Xiao Yong, a railway police officer in Nanchang, told the newspaper children run away from home during summer vacation every year, either because they feel bad after failing the college entrance examination or their parents have pressed them too hard to study.

For example, a high school girl ran away from home when she learned her parents had "enrolled her in five summer classes", Yu said.

According to police statistics, the number of school children running away from home has been rising for the past few years. The number of runaway boys is higher than that of girls, and more middle school students do so than elementary and high school students.
