A county in East China's Zhejiang province is spending 18.5 million yuan ($3.02 million) on building 16 seafood stalls in an effort to attract more tourists, China News Service reported on Thursday.

The spending triggered discussions on the Internet, as some believe it's too costly.

The government of Dongtou county, in Wenzhou city, has built the first eight stalls, which cover 800 square meters and cost 7.2 million yuan.

The stalls were popular after they opened for business on Monday, according to the local government, which added that the rest of the stalls would cost more because they will be built on land reclaimed from the sea.
