New York (CNS) – A man was arrested for claiming that every passenger was poisoned on United Airlines Flight 116, which flew from Hong Kong to the United States on Monday.
After the passenger caused a disruption, procedures were followed, and the flight with 238 passengers continued on as scheduled and landed safely at Newark Liberty Airport, just outside New York City, at 1:35 p.m. local time.
After landing, an FBI spokesman said there was no report about poisoned passengers on the flight. A team from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was conducting a thorough investigation of the aircraft, he added.
About what the man said on the plane, there are different versions among passengers.
One said the man kept shouting excitedly hours before landing and wanted to land in Canada instead.
Another said the man repeated some words, such as "US national security," "CIA" and the name of Edward Snowden.
The identity of the man was not revealed, and several witnesses described his mental condition as very unstable.
Latest news from the FBI said the man has been sent to the hospital and details of the incident are under investigation.
