As Chinese President Xi Jinping wrapped up his visits to Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and Mexico on Thursday, his Latin American tour has drawn global attention.

Teofilo Torres Corzo, head of the Mexican Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee for the Asia-Pacific, said Xi conveyed a message of friendship and solidarity to the Mexican people, adding that the proposals Xi made in his speech to the Mexican Senate were apropos and pertinent.

Ana Lilia Herrera, a senator for Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party, described Xi's visit as a historic moment, saying the trip will usher in a new era of bilateral relations between Mexico and China.

The senator said she agreed with Xi's proposals on improving bilateral relations, such as boosting the development of the tourism industry and supporting youth exchanges.

Boris Martynov, deputy director of the Latin America Institute at the Russian Academy of Sciences, said Xi's visit to Latin America is of historic significance.

Martynov said he expected new breakthroughs in the development of bilateral ties between China and Latin America after the visit.

Xi is completely correct in saying that Latin America is embracing another golden period of development in his speech, Martynov said.

Xi made it clear in his speech that China is willing to see a more prosperous Latin America, Martynov said.
