Joking about fake meat

A man surnamed Lu who joked to his dining companions that the mutton kebabs they had ordered were fake meat was sued by the restaurant owner for defaming his venue's reputation, the Beijing Morning Post reports.

Upon hearing the joke, the owner, surnamed Xu, confronted the customer. Believing that the derogatory remark would have an adverse effect on business, Xu demanded an apology and 1,000 yuan in compensation. Lu refused to comply.

When the matter was brought before Changping district administration of justice officers, it was decided that Lu had only been joking with his friends, and did not cause actual losses to Xu. After the mediation, Lu apologized to Xu.
