Away from the glamour of the red carpet, the Cannes Film Festival is home to a thriving movie market where films are bought and sold and millions of dollars changes hands. This year the Cannes Film Market is shining a spotlight on China with the launch of an initiative to introduce the country's emerging filmmakers to the international film industry and provide training on how to tailor their films for the international market.

For China's emerging directors, there is no better place to be than Cannes selected from (hundreds/thousands), these are the finalists of the China New Talent Fund here on an all expenses paid trip to develop their skills and promote their movies.

Dong Chengguang, director of "Love changes the world", said:" Many people didn't support me.... something."

There can only be one winner but all of the filmmakers taking part in the initiative say they will take something away from the experience.

Michelle Wang, director/ producer of "Beijing carmen", said:"We have bigger view of how to put a Chinese film in the foreign market so I think when they ask me questions I really feel, ok this is the place for the best producers, the best filmmakers to come together to talk about the future so I really think its very helpful for us."

China is now the world's second largest movies producer, which is why the spotlight this year is falling on its rising stars.

Jerome Pallard, Cannes Film Market Executive Director, said:"Generally I think for us it's very important for us to establish a strong relationship with China, for obvious reasons. It's a high market for the coming years and it's also a very big producer of films for the coming decade so that's one of the parts of this development and doing something with young talent, for us, looks very interesting."
