Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Wednesday put forward proposals on developing cross-Straits relations when meeting a delegation from Taiwan.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, proposed that compatriots from Taiwan should be closely unified to strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Yu proposed deepening mutual political trust and maintaining the right direction of cross-Straits relations' development.

He also proposed to the delegation, which was led by Taiwanese politician Yao Eng-chi, to improve the quality and efficiency of cross-Straits communication and institutionalize this aspect of the relations.

Communication between political advisors from the mainland and representatives from Taiwan shows the will and gathers the wisdom of the people of both sides and plays an irreplaceable role in promoting mutual understanding and offering political suggestions, said Yu.

He said that cross-Straits relations have stepped into a new phase of consolidation after efforts from both sides in the past five years.
