A forum on cultural cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries has kicked off in Beijing. China's Culture Minister and delegates from 16 European countries are attending the forum to promote cross-cultural sharing. More high-level meetings on culture and cultural festivals are expected to be held more regularly in the future.

The theme of this year's forum is "Deepen pragmatic cooperation for a better tomorrow".

Speaking at the event, Chinese Culture Minister Cai Wu praises the cultural achievements made by China with countries in Central and Eastern European.

He said, "Cultural cooperation between China and CEE countries has strong support from the highest level on both sides. A cultural exchange platform has been formed and more in-depth communication is anticipated. Our joint efforts are needed to develop creative cultural cooperation."

Martin Sankot, the Deputy Minister of Culture from the Czech Republic, says the forum is the optimum platform for China and these European countries to learn from one another. It is also a platform for communication and intellectual exchange.

China's former Premier Wen Jiabao announced a series of projects to push forward cooperation between China and countries in Central and Eastern European last April. Cultural cooperation topped this list.

Following the forum, delegates will attend the 9th China International Cultural Industry expo in Shenzhen.

A series of events promoting Central and Eastern European culture in China has started long ago. Hundreds of artists, performers, will present the best of their distinctive art and culture to Chinese viewers in the coming years. Officials say cross-culture exchange and cooperation between China and CEE countries have proven to be the most effective means to enhance mutual knowledge and understanding.
