Beijing's old Summer Palace, or Yuanmingyuan imperial gardens, long-ago suffered the plunders of war. The remains of the gardens are valued as a precious heritage of culture and history. An exhibit in the capital is now presenting them to the public.

Some of the pieces at the show have never been unveiled before. There is also a work of calligraphy that belonged to the 18th century Emperor Qianlong, a calligraphy lover and ardent collector. Other highlights include the heads of the Chinese zodiac signs, donated by movie star and producer Jackie Chan.

The Yuanmingyuan show was in Berlin until the end of last year. Its next stop is Russia this September.
