New bird flu cases push count up to 108

Shandong province has become the latest province in China to confirm a case of H7N9 virus. This brings the total number of confirmed H7N9 cases to 108 in the country. The death toll due to the virus stands at 22.

According to the National Health and Family Planning Commission, Shandong confirmed one case of infection on Tuesday, along with 2 new cases in Zhejiang and one in Anhui. As it stands now, Shanghai has so far reported 33 cases, including 12 fatalities.

Jiangsu Province has reported 24 cases, with 3 deaths. In Zhejiang Province 42 cases of the viral infection have been reported along with 6 deaths. Four people have been infected in Anhui Province, with one dead.

Three people have been infected in Henan province. Beijing and Shandong Province each have reported one case. The Commission says there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission of the virus so far.
