Rescue work continues in Sichuan province, following the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit the southwestern province on Saturday. The so-called "golden rescue period" of 72 hours has now passed, but emergency crews are continuing to do all they can to try to find survivors of the quake.

According to the Sichuan provincial government, as of 6 am Tuesday Beijing time, 193 people have died, and over 11-thousand have been injured. Over 960 of those are said to be in a serious condition.

23 people are still missing. By 10 PM Monday Beijing time, over 2,600 aftershocks had been recorded, with 4 above 5.0-magnitude. The national meteorological center says rain is expected in quake-hit areas in the next three days, making work more difficult for the 22-thousand people deployed in rescue efforts.
