Central China's Henan Province's health bureau has reported a new case of H7N9 bird flu. This brings the total number of infected people to 83.

The death toll now stands at 17. The National Health and Family Planning Commission says there is no evidence that human to human transmission of the virus is possible. It says all reported cases are separate. A research project to develop a vaccine for the virus is underway.

Meanwhile, China's poultry industry is feeling the pain, with some cities banning the movement of poultry and closing poultry markets. Industry losses are now more than 13 billion Chinese Yuan, about 2 billion US dollars.
