Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Thursday urged China's top advisory body to better exert its role as a political consultative body.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks at a meeting attended by the heads of all special committees under the CPPCC National Committee.

Yu said the nine special committees include elite members from all walks of life and have played a large role in promoting the government's democratic decision-making.

He asked the committees to focus on deepening relevant reforms and do more research before putting forward its suggestions in 2013.

He also urged all members of the CPPCC National Committee to innovate their mindsets and enhance their personal capabilities to create a good start for the new advisory body's work.
