Macao's per capita GDP reaches 76,588 USD in 2012

Macao's GDP for the whole year of 2012 reached 348.2 billion patacas (47.7 billion U.S. dollars), with per capita GDP amounting to 611,930 patacas (76,588 U.S. dollars), the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said on Friday.

Macao's GDP rose by 9.9 percent in real terms last year and economic growth for the fourth quarter of last year stood at 8.5 percent in real terms, according to the DSEC figures.

Macao's per capita GDP in 2012 rose by 80,207 patacas over 2011, an increase of 15.08 percent year-on-year.

The DSEC said that growth in exports of services and the escalating domestic demand are principal driving forces of the economic expansion.

Analyzed by major components, exports of gaming services increased by 6.9 percent and total visitor spending rose 6.4 percent. In respect of domestic demand, private consumption expenditure increased by 9.1 percent. Moreover, merchandise export surged by 23.2 percent.
