One way to get there in China, is to take the entrance exams into the country's prestigious film academies. And this year the competition is to begin in late February. Though some schools have already got a head start.

Like always, the most popular major is still performing arts. As more and more candidates are applying, the competition is becoming more fierce than ever. Some one thousand students are competing for a spot on the performing arts major at the Central Academy of Drama, almar mater of Gong Li and Zhang Ziyi. But only 50 would be admitted. And the competitions for the Communication University of China and Beijing Film Academy are just as intense. In response to the flood of candidates, these institutions have made adjustment to the exams, making them more difficult so that only the cream of the crop will stand out.
