More on the Spring Festival Gala here at the CCTV headquarters in Beijing. Every year, nearly a billion viewers from home and abroad tune in to watch the show. We spoke with the stage designer to find out more about the level of organization required to make a show of this magnitude a success.
A television extravaganza, full of music, dance and special effects.
The annual CCTV Spring Festival Gala holds the world record for the largest audience, and for the most performers. This all happens on the same stage.
Chen Yan, stage designer of CCTV Spring Festival Gala, said, "This is the same stage as the one used for last year's gala. Most of the equipment was used in last year's show. Visual effects will be much more beautiful this year, as the technology has improved."
The gala has been held on the stage since 1998. This saves the crew a lot of money.
Chen said, "The stage is the most important and the busiest one here at the CCTV headquarters. It holds at least a dozen of galas every year. We just make some adjustments every time."
CCTV's Spring Festival Gala features comedy sketches, big song and dance numbers and various kinds of Chinese operas. Viewers worldwide can expect another glitzy television show this year.
