Revenge possibly led to fatal firecracker blast

2013-01-31 09:37 Xinhua     Web Editor: Mo Hong'e comment

The cause of a firecracker explosion that left two former lovers dead on Wednesday in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province may have been due to a revenge attack, according to local authorities.

Initial investigations found that the dead man was the suspect of the explosion, which occurred around 7 a.m. at a booth selling fireworks in Yingchun Township in Hulin City, the city government said.

The female booth owner also died. The couple separated four months ago, according to relatives of the woman.

The case is under further investigation.

Fireworks are an important part of the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, which begins on Feb. 9.
