Food waste VS. food deprivation in China

2013-01-25 11:14 CNTV     Web Editor: yaolan comment

Food waste is a big problem in China. Across the country, countless dishes are left unfinished on dining tables, while bills soar.

Last Saturday in China's east Shandong Province, diners left many unfinished dishes on banquet tables held by an enterprise. Similar thing is happening in Guangzhou in south China. The table that costs nearly four-thousand yuan is left like this. But equally problematic in China is the issue of food deprivation. In a small village in northwest China's Gansu Province, this basket of steamed bread is what this farmer will eat for the next seven days. In suburban Beijing, some with empty stomaches have to pick leaves from a garbage heap containing discarded produce.
