Zambia lauds China for construction of ultra-modern stadium

Zambian Vice-President Guy Scott on Tuesday praised the work done on an ultra-modern stadium in the capital Lusaka with financial assistance from the Chinese government.

The Zambian vice-president, who toured stadium of the 50-seater capacity, said he is happy that the project has now taken shape. He stressed the need to start working on other facilities to ensure its operation once it is finished.

He proposed a Task Force be put in place to look at the construction of other supporting facilities such as transport facilities as well as shops.

So far, about 60 percent of the work on the 94 million U.S. dollars stadium has been completed. The contractor, Shanghai Construction Group, is optimistic that works will be completed on time.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao, who accompanied the vice-president, said he is happy to see progress in the project, the second after the ultra-modern stadium built in Zambia's Copperbelt Province.
