Two senior leaders of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Sunday emphasized adherence to the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress held in November last year.

Liu Yunshan and Zhang Gaoli, both members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, championed efforts to adhere to the congress spirit when lecturing a high-profile workshop attended by new CPC Central Committee members and alternate members elected at the November congress.

Liu asked CPC members to deepen both their confidence in and awareness of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

To deepen confidence, one has to have firm faith and be confident of victory in the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

To deepen awareness is to improve one's understanding in the path, theories and system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, to grasp by depth the gist of socialism with Chinese characteristics and take initiatives and assume responsibilities in developing the cause, according to Liu.

CPC members were told to make self-improvement. By this, Liu meant that based on the actual circumstances and relying on oneself, members should unswervingly follow their own path, strive to achieve national prosperity and rejuvenation as well as promote people's well-being.

"(We shall) always bear in mind that reform and opening up is a crucial choice that sealed the fate of modern China, (we need) greater political courage and wisdom and shall lose no time to deepen reform in important sectors," Liu said.
