2012-12-29 14:51 Xinhua     Web Editor: Wang YuXia comment

Two pedestrians sustained minor injuries in a landslide on Friday near China's Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest water control and hydropower project, government authorities said.

The landslide occurred around 10 a.m. and damaged the Zhaojun Bridge, a passageway from Yichang City of central China's Hubei Province to Chongqing Municipality and Sichuan Province, disrupting road traffic, said Gong Yong, deputy chief of the road management bureau of Yichang's Xingshan County.

One car was damaged after around 10,000 cubic meters of rock fell from a nearby mountain to the bridge spanning the Xiangxi River, a tributary located in the reservoir region of the Three Gorges Dam. Passengers in the car were not injured, said Gong.

Traffic police have blocked the bridge so they can conduct a safety inspection, and the cause of the landslide is under investigation.
