Since the announcement of Mo Yan's award, the whole nation has been in a frenzy over Mo and his works.

As Mo Yan basks in the limelight in Stockholm, Chinese people are also reveling in his win. The event is being broadcast and covered by every major Chinese outlets.

In this book store in Beijing's busiest commercial district...

I stayed up late to watch the live broadcast. I think he is a humble, wise man.

This reader slipped into the book store after work.

I downloaded a few of his books on my cellphone. But I think reading the books would be better. Reading books should be encouraged.

Like her, many paging through the books are new converts to Mo Yan's works.

I didn't read his books before. But I'll start.

More than two million copies have been snapped up in this book store alone since Mo Yan's win was announced in October.

For many, the award means more than a diploma and prize.

I believe and I hope his win will help promote Chinese culture.

Discussion of Mo's award ceremony has taken over China's Twitter-like social media networks.

On Sina Weibo alone, 24-million messages have been posted as of Tuesday afternoon.

"His acceptance speech lacks creativity, yet it's sincere..." One blogger wrote... "His works are critical. They also reflect the common wishes of mankind."

But the congratulations also gave way to debate over the role a writer should play in society, with some saying Mo Yan should be more vocal about the difficult issues in China.

"Once he accepts the award, he'll have to shoulder moral obligations and to speak out for the sufferings of the people."

Others argue.."I don't expect Mo Yan to be the conscience of the nation. I just hope he can protect and stick to his faith."

As discussions heat up, the new Nobel laureate will face a different set of expectations when he returns home.
