China and Vietnam on Monday vowed to further strengthen law enforcement cooperation so as to promote the development of bilateral relations.

The pledge came out of a meeting between State Councilor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu and Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang.

Describing cooperation between the security and law enforcement departments of the two countries as an important component of bilateral ties, Meng called on both sides to further strengthen cooperation and to better maintain the two countries' security and interests.

Quang echoed Meng, saying the Vietnamese party and government attach great importance to their friendship with China. He said his ministry will enhance cooperation with its Chinese counterpart and promote the further development of Vietnam-China relations.

Meng, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, also highlighted the traditional friendship between China and Vietnam.

He said furthering friendship and cooperation between the two countries is the common will of the two peoples and will be conducive to maintaining regional peace, stability, prosperity and development.

He called on the two countries to promote the sound and in-depth development of their comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.
