Chow Yun Fat promotes new film in HK

The box office battle on the silver screen is continuing, with more blockbusters opening in theatres around China.

Film superstar Chow Yun Fat returned to Hong Kong from Singapore to promote his latest film, "The Last Tycoon" on Friday. In the film, he plays a similar role to the one that made him famous in the 1980's, on the TV show "The Bund".

Chow Yun Fat returned to Hong Kong to promote his latest film "The Last Tycoon". The 57-year old actor was just back from Singapore where it opened for "Screen Singapore", a film festival there.

The plot of "The Last Tycoon" is quite like that of the popular television period drama "The Bund" that he starred in. The story is set in the turn of the century China, and deals with the rise of an infamous Chinese mafia in Shanghai.

Actor Huang Xiaoming from the Chinese mainland plays the younger version of Chow's character in the film. Huang, who recently suffered an injury while filming his new project, could not make it to Hong Kong for the charity screening.

Chow said, "I'm sure all these pins in his ankle will be taken out soon. I don't think he can attend the Shanghai premiere. However, we have many stops on the promotion tour, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and then Beijing. So we'll save the Beijing premier for him to attend."

Other than Chow and Huang, the film also stars veteran actors Sammo Hung and Francis Ng, as well as beautiful actresses, Yuan Quan, Yuan Li, and Moica Mok.

Chow said, "The women behind the mafia are very important to the film. In addition to the explosions, and the mafia scenes, we have beautiful actresses to make it a little softer. It suits me well."

"The Last Tycoon" is directed by Hong Kong director Wong Jing. It is set for release in late December in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
